Dear Friends,
It is with great enthusiasm that I announce my candidacy for re-election to District Court Judge. Serving you and our community has been the greatest honor of my professional career. There is nothing I look forward to more than walking into the courtroom to hear complex, meaningful, and deeply rewarding cases. As I seek re-election, I look forward to the opportunity to continue serving you for a second term – and I humbly ask for your support. Over my first term, I have approached each day with energy, optimism, and a commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of those who appear before me. Presiding in Domestic Violence, Criminal, and Family Law court has certainly been challenging at times, but it has also been profoundly fulfilling. Whenever I take the bench, I always strive to listen carefully, objectively apply the law, and render decisions that are reasoned, impartial, and just. In my courtroom, parties can expect to be treated fairly with a Judge who is willing to consider both sides. I have worked hard to improve courtroom workflows after the implementation of e-courts, regularly sit on both the judicial and standard domestic violence committees, and helped resolve our divorce docket logjam. Outside of the courtroom, I take pride in participating in youth mentorship programs, enjoy presenting CLEs to newly admitted members of our Bar, and am currently working towards Juvenile Court Judge certification. Thank you for the support and trust you placed in me when I was elected nearly three years ago. I would be honored to earn your support once again as I run for a second term. Any and all support is greatly appreciated. Respectfully Yours, Judge Matt Newton |

Dear Colleagues and Friends,
It is with great enthusiasm that I announce my candidacy for District Court Judge. Having learned of Judge Osman’s desire to run for the Superior Court bench, I will be filing for his vacant District Court seat with the intention of upholding the integrity and fairness our bar expects and deserves. As you may know, I am a life-long Charlottean who believes that service to our community is the highest and most virtuous calling. I have served on the Boards of Smart Start (Mecklenburg Partnership for Children) and Charlotte Works, and I’m more recently completing my second term as a Charlotte City Councilmember. In all that I do, I always strive to conduct myself in the most responsive, forthright, and honest manner. As a trial attorney with over a decade of experience, it has also been my distinct pleasure to practice alongside you in both Civil and Criminal Court. I believe in decorum and professionalism, but know that being a capable and effective Judge requires more. As Judge, I will run an organized and compassionate courtroom. You can count on me to apply the law in an expedient, reasoned, and impartial way. It is these varied principles, perspectives, and experiences that I will bring to the District Court bench and why I humbly ask for your support. Please contemplate endorsing my campaign or making a donation below, and thank you in advance for your time and thoughtful consideration. Respectfully, Matt Newton |
